Woodward Camp Grand Opening

Saturday, June 9, 2012 was Woodward Tahoe’s grand opening at Boreal.  They opened their snow terrain park to the public for $25 per lift ticket.  The park included a pristine, 22’ half-pipe, an air bag jump, and a bunch of rails, boxes, and other features.

The rest of the event was free to the public.  There was a huge skate park, a bmx ramp to foam pit, a mini ramp out in the woods, a bunch of trampolines, meet and great with the biggest athletes in the industry-including Tony Hawk, Tom Schaar, Mike Vallely, Ryan Nyquist, and others… And free snowskate demos!

Minus 7 Snowskates donated their time and product to be demoed at the event.  Many of the up and coming snow sport and skate athletes were given the opportunity to try snowskating for the first time.  I witnessed a first time snowskater throw a big 180 air and ride away clean.  It is always so amazing to see fresh snowskaters step up and be fearless.  That is exactly where progression of the sport is going to come from.

Snowskating has a unique opportunity at Woodward’s where there is a fusion of snowboarding and skateboarding in one camp.  Minus 7 had the right idea in introducing these people to snowskating.  If snowskating catches on in one of these skate/snowboard camps, serious progression by the most talented youth will push this sport to the next level.
